What should I bring along?
Life on a boat does not require a great variety of clothing and interiors aboard are usually limited: T-shirts, swimwear, a pair of nonslip shoes with a light-coloured sole to be used aboard and one pair of shoes to be used on land, a jumper, an oilskin wind jacket, a tracksuit, sunglasses, a cap, sun creams and personal belongings, books etc. All these things should be packed into a soft and folding bag; avoid using suitcases or rigid bags.
How is life on a boat?
Going to sea requires great adaptability and readiness to help other people as well as a love for nature and life in the open air. The Aydost is built to offer the maximum comfort above and below deck, but it will never equal a hotel or a cruise ship!!! Guests, if they wish so, may take turns participating in the manoeuvres of the yacht. The captain will decide routes according to the weather situation and taking into consideration the safety and well-being of all participants; any change to the program will be decided by the whole crew.
How is the climate?
The climate in Croatia is continental in the inland - with great temperature ranges – and Mediterranean along the coastline, with mild winters and warm summers.
Which is the best season?
The best period for a trip to Croatia goes from April to October. During the summertime, average temperatures along the coast range from 26°C to 30° C, with peak values of 36°-38°C, while the water temperature is of approximately 26°C; in the inland, temperatures range from 22°C to 26°C. All things considered, if you wish to make a trip that includes transfers as well as relaxing moments, the ideal months are September and October when the weather is still settled, the sea still warm, prices lower than in the summertime and less people are around.
INFORMATION
Bureaucracy and visas
A EU citizen wishing to enter Croatia only needs an identity card valid for expatriation or a valid passport. Under age people accompanied by their parents will only need a birth certificate issued by the city authority and validated by the competent police office .
Telephone
If you wish to call Croatia from abroad, you have to dial the international code 00385, then the area code without the first 0 and the desired number. If you wish to call within Croatia you have to dial the area code (with the beginning 0) followed by the desired number.
Public telephones can be used with prepaid telephone cards (telekarte) that can be bought in cigar stores; in order to save money, you’d better call using telephones situated inside post offices. You can also use your cell phone if you are enabled to make/receive international calls.
Money, credit card and exchange
The currency of Croatia is the Kuna (1 Euro = 7,50 Kunas approx.). You can exchange money in banks (8-19 MON-FRI, 8-12 SAT, open also on Sundays in the major cities), exchange offices, post offices, tourist agencies and hotels. Credit card payments are quite common. It is also possible to withdraw cash at the various automatic teller machines present in all major cities and touristic resorts: to this regard, it is advisable to use bank withdrawing cards (Bancomat) instead of post office ones (Postamat) due to the lower expenses charged for each withdrawal.
Ferries
Local ferry lines link up the islands (Cres, Rab, Pag, Ugljan,Pasman, Dugi Otok, Iz, Solta, Brac, Hvar, Vis, Korcula, Lastovo, Mljet) to the mainland; moreover, there are also daily runs between Rijeka and Split and three times a week down to Dubrovnik (Jadrolinija , tel. 00385-51-666100; for all other ferry lines visit the website www.jadrolinija.hr ). Just a piece of advice: book the boarding and queue as soon as possible, at least two hours in advance during rush days!
Health services
Health care in Croatia is of good quality and no vaccination is needed to enter the country. Before leaving your country however, you should have your local health unit issue the so-called “form 111” which allows you to be treated - in case of need – free of charge. In case of emergency, even the smallest villages have a medical surgery. Pharmacies are located in all towns and are open 9-12 and 16-19 Monday through Saturday (they are closed on Sundays).
